Carthage School District Announces Inaugural Distinguished Tiger Alumni Award RecipientsCarthage School District and the Distinguished Tiger Alumni Award Board are proud to announce the inaugural recipients of the Distinguished Tiger Alumni Award, established in honor of Ms. Caroline Tubbs, a lifelong advocate for education and passionate learner. This award was created to recognize Carthage High School graduates who have made outstanding contributions in their fields and communities.
The Distinguished Tiger Alumni Award celebrates excellence in a range of areas, including education, business, human services, government, fine arts, and educational financial support. The individuals selected this year truly embody the spirit of excellence that Ms. Tubbs championed throughout her life and career.
2025 Distinguished Tiger Alumni Honorees:Brandon Weaver – Class of 2009 A leader in the tech world and a quiet force for good, Brandon Weaver serves as a Senior Software Engineer at Amazon One Medical. His career has included roles at Square, Gusto, Sony PlayStation, and Cerner. Brandon is also a featured speaker in the Ruby programming community, presenting worldwide from Japan to Brazil.
Beyond his professional success, Brandon is a passionate advocate for autism awareness and a generous supporter of education and athletics. From funding classroom wish lists and cross country programs to providing a specialized wheelchair for a student-athlete and covering a full year of college tuition for a student in need, Brandon gives with purpose but never for recognition.
As a CHS student, Brandon was involved in Cross-Country, Track & Field, Swimming, SkillsUSA, Jazz, Concert, and Marching Band. His advice to current Tigers: “Believe in the potential of people, empathy, and community. Invest accordingly. We are stronger together, united, building towards a brighter future where everyone is welcome.”
Dr. Grant Williams – Class of 2001 Dr. Williams is a world-renowned oncologist, specializing in geriatric care. He is certified in internal medicine, oncology, and geriatric medicine. Dr. Williams currently serves as a professor and clinical researcher at the University of Alabama Birmingham, and has authored over 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications. His numerous honors include the Exceptional Care Provider Award, Teaching Excellence Award, and Patient Excellence Award.
Known for his compassionate approach, Dr. Williams is especially recognized for advancing care and dignity for older cancer patients.
While at CHS, Dr. Williams was active in Tennis, Jazz Band, Show Choir, Math Team, Spanish Club, Basketball, and Student Council. His advice to students: “Work hard and enjoy the journey.”
These recipients will be honored on Friday, October 17, 2025, during halftime of the Carthage High School football game. The Distinguished Tiger Alumni Award serves not only to celebrate the incredible achievements of our alumni but also to inspire current and future Tigers to lead with excellence, empathy, and purpose.
